Message Boards Use and Guidelines

The Versant Forums at the Versant Developer Center (VDC) are the central meeting place for all software developers working with or interested in Versant's ODBMS products, the Versant Object Database and FastObjects.

The message boards provide an open, public and unmoderated site for exchanging your experiences with other developers. The Developer Center Team invites you to contribute to these message boards and help build a vital and useful Developer Community.

Following information, provided in FAQ format, are supposed to answer the basic questions you have about usage of the boards. It also defines your rights and responsibilities as a participant of the message boards.

What do I have to do to get started?

Before you can post messages to the message boards, you must register as a VDC Member. To register, create a new profile at VDC Member Area (see right-hand panel).

If you already have signed-up for a VDC Member account you just need to logon (see right-hand VDC panel).

How can I access the message boards?

You can access the message boards without registration read-only. Posting messages or replies requires login at VDC Member Area (see right-hand panel).

How can I get notified on new posts?

Each forum provides e-mail subscriptions. You can subscribe either the entire forum or to selected topics. Notification e-mails on new posts will be sent to the e-mail address provided in your VDC Member profile.

Can I cancel a message after I post it?

Messages cannot be cancelled once posted. If there is a topic or reply that you feel should be deleted, please contact the Versant Developer Center Team at devcenter@versant.com.

Will my email address be visible to other participants?

No. Only your username, which you define with registration as a VDC Member, can been be seen in the forums and in the subscription notifications.

As a participant of the message boards, what rights and benefits do I grant to Versant?

In some cases, Versant may decide to use information posted to the message boards. By participating in the message boards, you grant to Versant the unrestricted right to use, reproduce, modify, translate, display, perform, transmit, and distribute any material you post to a message board in any present or future medium and for any purpose.

What are my responsibilities and obligations as a participant of the message boards?

To maintain a cordial and professional atmosphere on the message boards, Versant requests that you adhere to the following Code of Ethics when posting messages:

  • Do not post messages that are abusive, harrassing, stalking, hateful, obscene, defamatory, an invasion of anyone's privacy, harmful to other users, or harmful to the business interests of Versant.
  • Do not post material protected by intellectual property laws (e.g., copyright or trademark laws) without permisson of the owner.
  • Do not advocate or engage in unlawful activities.
  • Do not post any product announcements or advertisements.
Whom should I contact if I need assistance?

If you need assistance with just the message boards, please contact the Versant Developer Center Team at devcenter@versant.com.

If you are using either Versant Object Database (formerly VDS) or FastObjects and need formal product support, please contact Versant Support.

What role does the Versant Developer Center Team have in the message boards?

The Versant Developer Center Team oversees the message boards and stands ready to help you when needed. Its responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in resolving selected questions posted to the message boards.
    Note: Versant does not offer formal product support through these message boards. For information about our product support offers refer to Services -> Support.
  • Monitoring the articles posted to the message boards.
    Important: Versant does not necessarily endorse, support, or agree with the opinions and statements expressed in any of the message boards. Any information placed online is solely the view of the individual who posted it. Messages found to be in violation of the Message Boards Code of Ethics (see above) are subject to cancellation without notice. In this event, a reasonable effort will be made to notify a message board user if the user's message has been cancelled.
