A Consistent Discount Model Irrespective of the Hardware on which Versant’s Database Is Deployed

Versant Corporation (NASDAQ:VSNT), an industry leader in specialized data management, today announced license pricing for its object database technology deployed on multi-core microprocessors.

Under Versant’s per processor licensing, each core will be treated as a separate processor, but in multi-core units, a discount of 25% per license will be provided
effective immediately. Therefore, deploying Versant Object Database to a quad-core device would be priced as a three-processor license, and deploying Versant Object Database to an eight-core device would be priced as a six-processor license. Versant customers who elect per processor licensing will be provided this prescribed discount regardless of the hardware manufacturer to which Versant’s object database is deployed.

The issue of software licensing on multi-core microprocessors has moved to the forefront over the past several weeks, as some of the major hardware vendors rolled out multi-core processor devices gaining immediate traction in the industry. Some software vendors have recently decided to base their multi-core pricing model upon the hardware vendor, whereas Versant provides this discount irrespective of whose hardware vendor's multi-core processors are used.
